Sold by the cubic yard, this rock is also called Washed Rock. It is commonly used for drainage applications and as a very low maintenance ground cover. For ground cover applications, put down our weed blocking fabric first, then apply the rock on top.
The rock is round and smooth so it is NOT recommended for walkways or driveways because it does not pack down (please use 5/8" Minus Crushed Rock or Crushed Concrete for this purpose).

We have the real stuff....not the fake stuff some of our competitors sell. Our 3/8" Pea Gravel is round, smooth, forever lasting "pea" sized rock and sold by the cubic yard. Some of our competitors sell what they call pea gravel but it is very small 1/4" crushed rock (with sharp edges) or Pea Gravel that has not been washed so it contains sandy dirt mixed in.
3/8" Pea Gravel is commonly used for drainage applications, pipe beading, Red-i-Mix concrete and lastly, for under swingsets to provide cushion for falling little butts! For under playsets or swingsets, it is recommended to apply 3/8" Pea Gravel at least 6" deep. Some sites recommend up to 9" deep. 1 yard covers 54 square feet 6" deep. You can also go to our How Much Do I Need? page for a useful calculator to determine how much you will need.

Oversized 3" - 8" River Rock
When you buy a yard of this rock, it comes in a mixture of irregular sizes from the size of a baseball to a basketball--just like if you scooped it out of a riverbed. It is round and smooth. For a size reference, see the pen on top of the rock in the middle of the picture below.

This material is an excellent alternative to Drain Rock (for the right applications) and is usually $7-10 cheaper per yard. It is the byproduct of the topsoil screening process and is approximately 80% round drain rock, 10% dirt and 10% small sticks. We have to warn you though, it is not a pretty product. If it was a baby, we'd say it had a face only a mother could love!! However, it is a perfect substitute for Drain Rock if you are planning to bury it anyway (and not look at it). Many of our customers have used it as backfill for their retaining walls.
Please email us to check and see if it is available in your area and order it well in advance (up to a week) before you need it. See the picture below with the cell phone in the middle as a size reference.
