This material is an excellent alternative to Drain Rock (for the right applications) and is usually $7-10 cheaper per yard, making it a great value. It is the byproduct of the topsoil screening process and is approximately 80% round drain rock, 10% dirt and 10% small sticks. We have to warn you though, it is not a pretty product. If it was a baby, we’d say it had a face only a mother could love!! However, it is a perfect substitute for Drain Rock if you are planning to bury it anyway (and not look at it). Many of our customers have used it as backfill for their retaining walls, to fill in muddy areas, potholes etc. Tailing rock does not compact or “set up”.
